Noni Madueke Plays 45 Minutes at Left Wing vs Bilbao: Arsenal Fans Drop Verdict

Arsenal’s new signings showed their quality in the 3-0 win over Athletic Club Bilbao, with Viktor Gyokeres opening his account. England international Noni Madueke also gave a very positive second-half performance.

The new signing was playing on the left flank, having spent most of his time at Chelsea on the right. Operating in a direct and positive fashion, though, he caught the eye. Indeed, the Englishman notably put in a lovely cross for Gyokeres to get his second of the afternoon, but the Swede hit the post.

Still, the performance was enough for Arsenal fans to sing Madueke’s praises, with many supporters excited about what he can bring to the team in the coming Premier League season.

Arsenal Fans Impressed With Madueke

Noni Madueke

Madueke played the vast majority of his games for Chelsea last season on the right wing. Today, however, he looked more than capable on the left flank as one Gunners fan noted:

“I like Madueke on the left. He can do more than just one thing…combines with others nicely and is so comfortable on the ball, as well as being able to put his head down and rely on his pace. Good cameo today, not done himself any harm whatsoever in terms of selection.”

When it comes to team selection, the Gunners go to Old Trafford next Sunday to face Manchester United. So it would be a big call to start Mandueke. Yet fans were buoyed by his performance. “I really like Noni Madueke. So far, so good.”

The consensus from those who enjoyed his play was his direct and positive nature: “A winger who will beat his man 1v1 and put in a cross.” There was some initial negativity among Arsenal fans about the Madueke signing. The feeling from some is that the Gunners were getting a Chelsea cast off. His performance against Bilbao has altered the narrative about his place at the Emirates.

Yeah Madueke is good. If we signed him from PSV and not Chelsea there would be a massive difference in opinion. He’s going to ball out for us for sure.

There has been a great deal of scrutiny on Viktor Gyokeres. It has been said by some he can’t head the ball. This claim will surely be put to bed now, given the quality of his goal and how close he went to getting a second. That second effort from the Swede came from a Madueke cross, which was appreciated by the Gunners faithful: “Nahhhh that Madueke ball into Gyokeres was filthy.”

Madueke replaced Gabriel Martinelli at half-time. The Brazilian has had some big moments in an Arsenal jersey, but some feel his time has passed.Madueke should start LW next Sunday. Martinelli’s bar was very low but he did pass it.

Others were even more forthright: “He’s (Madueke) better than Martinelli. That’s for sure.” Whether or not Mikel Arteta will start the English wide player against Manchester United remains to be seen, but he has made a favourable impression already.
