27 scored, 0 conceded: A crazy Arteta UCL stat

Tuesday was another memorable Champions League night for us as we swept Atletico Madrid aside with a remarkable 4-0 success, continuing our home dominance in the competition.

In fact, Emirates Stadium has been such a fortress at this stage of the competition that we have still yet to lose, or even concede, in a Champions League group/league phase home game under Mikel Arteta.

Since our return to Europe’s premier tournament in 2023/24, we have won all nine such fixtures in N5, scoring 27 times and keeping a clean sheet every time. You have to go back to November 2016 for the last time the opposition netted against us at this stage, which was actually an Alex Iwobi own goal in a 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain.

Our last nine home games in the UCL group/league phase
Date Opponent Score
20/09/2023 PSV Eindhoven W 4-0
08/11/2023 Sevilla W 2-0
29/11/2023 Lens W 6-0
01/10/2024 Paris Saint-Germain W 2-0
22/10/2024 Shakhtar Donetsk W 1-0
11/12/2024 Monaco W 3-0
22/01/2025 Dinamo Zagreb W 3-0
01/10/2025 Olympiacos W 2-0
21/10/2025 Atletico Madrid W 4-0

We are on a 14-match unbeaten run on our own patch in the pre-knockout stage of the Champions League, which has now crept past the 10-year mark. The last team to take three points from a group stage game at Emirates Stadium was Olympiacos back in September 2015 when they were 3-2 victors.

Only Liverpool (12) are currently on a longer such run of successive home wins at this stage of the competition, but we are still some way off the record of 17 in a row, set by Barcelona at the Nou Camp between September 2013 and October 2018.

However, our nine-straight home clean sheets in the group/league phase is unmatched in Champions League history, as we have now surpassed Jose Mourinho’s fabled Chelsea side who achieved eight in succession during the 2000s:

Most successive home clean sheets in CL group/league phase
Start end club clean sheets
Sep 2023 Ongoing Arsenal 9
Oct 2004 Dec 2006 Chelsea 8
Nov 2001 Dec 2002 Juventus 7
Feb 2003 Sep 2004 Deportivo La Coruna 6
Oct 2000 Sep 2001 Bayern Munich 6
Dec 2000 Oct 2001 Galatasaray 6
Dec 2023 Ongoing Inter Milan 6
Nov 2001 Dec 2002 Juventus 7
Nov 2009 Oct 2011 Real Madrid 6
Dec 2015 Oct 2018 Roma 6

That Blues side still hold the Premier League record for the fewest goals conceded in a campaign, a miserly 14 in 2005/06. However, our current haul of just three in eight league games is on track to beat that, while another clean sheet for David Raya against his countrymen means that trio of goals are the only ones we’ve let in this season – making this our best defensive start across the first 12 matches in our history.

2007/08 4
