Women’s Euro 2025 Prize Money Compared to Men’s Euro 2024 After England Triumph

England are the winners of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 tournament after beating Spain on penalties in the final. In what was a tight game, Chloe Kelly netted the crucial penalty to help the Lionesses retain their title.

Sarina Wiegman’s team trailed after 25 minutes, with Mariona Caldentey heading home an opener but Alessia Russo was able to level the scores in the second half. These were the only goals of regular and extra time, with the game heading to penalties after 120 minutes.

Hannah Hampton proved her quality as the England goalkeeper saved two penalties – with a little help from her cheat sheet – allowing Kelly the chance to win the tournament from 12 yards. The Arsenal winger did more than keep her cool as she blasted in a 110 km/h effort, which was the hardest strike of the tournament and was also quicker than any Premier League goal from the 2024/25 season.

Lionesses made £4.26m

Beyond the obvious glory of winning and becoming national legends, the England team will also get to enjoy a notable financial reward for their efforts at Euro 2025. Indeed, ahead of the tournament, UEFA confirmed (via The Independent) that a record amount of prize money would be on offer, with a total of €41m (£34m) up for grabs.

This represents a notable increase of 156 per cent on the prize money offered at Euro 2022, when it stood at just €16m. For winning the whole tournament, England got a winners’ fee of €1.75m (£1.49m) added to their prize pot.

What’s more, each England player will now receive a total of £73,000 – a figure £18,000 greater than what they earned from beating Germany at Wembley in 2022. That said, it pales in comparison to what the men’s teams were earning at Euro 2025.

Men’s Euro 2024 prize money

Spain won the tournament and made £24.6m

The total prize money on offer at the men’s Euro 2024, per I News, was a lot more than the £34m given out in Switzerland this summer, with teams competing for a whopping €331m (£278m). The participation fee alone was €9.25m (£7.8m), which is more than the Lionesses made in total for winning their competition.

In England, at least, players are paid equally for their international appearances. Indeed, since 2020, players for both the Three Lions and the Lionesses get paid £2000 per appearance, although most donate this to charity.

However, England men’s players would have got a lot more than the £73,000 women’s bonus if they’d beaten Spain in the Euro 2024 final, with a bonus pot of £14m on offer.
