Bombers Announce June AFLW Bendigo Community Camp

Essendon is set to return to the Bendigo and Castlemaine regions this June, this time with our AFLW program, as part of an exciting one-day Community Camp.

Essendon is set to return to the Bendigo and Castlemaine regions this June, this time with our AFLW program, as part of an exciting one-day Community Camp.

After the men’s team visited the area in December, we’re thrilled to continue building strong connections through a day of community-focused activities. Unlike the traditional two-day format, this year’s AFLW Community Camp will be condensed into one dynamic day packed with engagement, learning, and footy fun.

Here’s what’s planned for Monday, June 16:

School Visits

As part of our commitment to strengthening community ties, AFLW players will visit 11 schools across Bendigo and Castlemaine. These visits provide an exciting opportunity for local students to meet players, ask questions, and take part in hands-on activities that inspire connection and a love for the game.

Cultural Session

The team will take part in an immersive cultural session with members of the local Bendigo Aboriginal community. This experience offers players a meaningful opportunity to learn about the rich history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Traditional Owners of the region.

Snap & Sign Session + Auskick/Superkick Clinic

Location: La Trobe University Sports Field, Bendigo
Time: Snap & Sign, 3:30pm – 4:00pm

Wrap up the day with a family-friendly afternoon on the field. Join the Bombers AFLW squad for a Snap & Sign session, followed by a high-energy Auskick/Superkick Clinic.

These sessions are a fantastic chance for young fans to get active, meet their footy heroes, and collect a signature or snap a photo to remember the day.

Coaches’ Education Session

To support the growth of female coaches and develop local talent, a dedicated coaching session will also be held in the region.

Senior Coach Natalie Wood will lead the session alongside newly appointed AFLW Head of Development, Ben Brown. Together, they will share insights into their coaching journeys, leadership philosophies, and current pre-season training approach.

This is a valuable opportunity for aspiring coaches, especially women in football, to gain knowledge, inspiration, and practical tools to support their development.

From grassroots engagement to coach education and cultural connection, the AFLW Community Camp promises to deliver a powerful day of impact across Bendigo and Castlemaine.

Stay tuned for more updates and we hope to see you there!
