Chelsea v Liverpool Confirmed Starting Lineups for Premier League Match Amid Ekitike Update

Chelsea and Liverpool will go head-to-head in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways.

Enzo Maresca’s side were beaten 3-1 by Brighton last time out, but bounced back in midweek with a 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Benfica side in the Champions League to come into this game with some momentum. Arne Slot’s side, on the other hand, are in a sticky patch at the moment after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace followed by a 1-0 loss away to Galatasaray in midweek.

Both managers have some injury concerns to deal with, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expect the teams to line up.

Maresca Drops Team News Update

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Maresca shared an update on his squad ahead of the game.

“Marc [Guiu] is working well this week. He has worked very, very good. Much better compared to the first weeks when he came back. But for sure he’s going to get minutes with us and he’s going to play games.

“Cole [Palmer] is still out. We have Trev [Chalobah] suspended. We have seven or eight players out. I don’t have any update at the moment. We have a meeting this week to see how it is.

“We consider all our players to give them minutes and all positions. But also I think Estevao reminded me a lot of Cole when Cole was with me in the U23s at City. And when he was with us in the first team. I think Cole’s path has been similar to Estevao’s path in terms of starting wide as a winger. And then slowly, slowly you can move inside.

“Premier League is completely different compared to other countries in the world. If you want to play in the middle you need to be physically prepared. I think Cole now is like that. In the past he needed to develop that. And I see Estevao exactly in the same way.”

Liverpool Team News

Alisson Becker

The Reds have been rocked after first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off with a hamstring injury against Galatasaray, and he is now set to be sidelined until the end of November as a result.

Hugo Ekitike limped off in the game too but should be okay to feature following his suspension last week, while Federico Chiesa should also be fit after missing the midweek defeat. Giovanni Leoni is unlikely to play again this season after tearing his ACL.

Slot Drops Team News Update

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Slot shared an update on his squad ahead of the game.

“Alisson is not a part of the squad tomorrow. And he’s not going to travel to Brazil as well for the national team. So, he will be out for Saturday.

“Hugo [Ekitike] is going to train today again and let’s see where he is, and the same can be said for Federico [Chiesa]. We have to wait and see after the session where exactly they are.

“That depends also on how fast a recovery goes. So, Saturday it’s clear, he’s not going to play for Brazil, and I would be surprised if he would be there in the first game after the international break.

“But from there on, sometimes things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s always difficult to say the amount of days and weeks, but for the upcoming games he will not be part of us or the Brazil team.

“I think we’ve seen against Southampton how well he [Mamardashvili] has adjusted. We knew that we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper. But when he plays his first game, that’s always the best way of seeing that he’s adjusted well or not – and I think we’ve seen in that game that he’s adjusted really well to our goal, which is not a surprise because he’s a quality goalkeeper.

“Now he can do what Caoimh [Kelleher] had to do so many times in the past, replacing Alisson – hopefully in a way Caoimh did so many times before.”
