Birmingham 0-3 Coventry Player Ratings: 3/10 Dud Stinks, 7/10 Star Shines

Ten-man Birmingham City went down with a whimper as Coventry City deservedly took the points at the CBS Arena following a 3-0 win. It was boss Chris Davies’s heaviest defeat as Birmingham manager.

The Blues were well beaten on the day with some poor performances all-round, and this is how GIVEMESPORT rated their performances after the defeat.

Birmingham City Player Ratings

Jack Robinson Coventry Birmingham

Ryan Allsop – 4/10 – His first real action of the afternoon was to deal with Liam Kitching’s shot. Push it away, or save it. He did neither and Brandon Thomas-Asante profited. Almost gave away a third with sloppy passing.

Bright Osayi-Samuel – 5/10 – Was covered well by Brandon Thomas-Asante. Game enough but not helped by those in front of him.

Christoph Klarer – 7/10 – Usual defensive solidity from the Austrian. At fault for being robbed of possession in the build-up to Robinson’s sending-off though. There’s too much pressure on him to deliver at defensive set-pieces as well.

Jack Robinson – 3/10 – A couple of raking passes to the left can’t hide a poor defensive show. Positioning was poor before the sending off. His first looked like a booking in real time and his second yellow was avoidable.

Ethan Laird – 5/10 – it looked too easy to penetrate down Blues’ left. Sakamoto profited a couple of times from balls over the top. That shouldn’t happen against someone with Laird’s pace.

Tomoki Iwata – 6/10 – industrious, closed down well. Maybe the pick of a very poor bunch. Certainly couldn’t be blamed for this defeat. 6

Paik Seung-Ho – 5/10 – Struggled to do anything meaningful when in possession. Mitigated by the lack of movement in front of him. 5

Demarai Gray – 5/10 – the link up play between him and Osayi-Samual isn’t on the level yet. Got into good areas a couple of times but wasn’t found.

Jay Stansfield – 5/10 – seems to be the fall-guy in Davies’s system, shunted everywhere. Not to much effect. 5

Lewis Koumas – 5/10 – looked bright until he was sacrificed following Robinson’s dismissal. 5

Lyndon Dykes – 4/10 – made more of a contribution in four minutes last week than he did in this entire 90. 4

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies on the touchline

Cashin – 3/10 – (for Koumas, 43) – it was a case of sink or swim after going on two minutes before the interval. He sunk.

Roberts – 5/10 – (for Gray, 59) – asking a lot for the playmaker to affect proceedings, going on two down. He didn’t.

Cochrane – 5/10 – on (for Laird, 59) was found out of position on occasion. Benefit of the doubt because Birmingham were one man down.

Doyle – 5/10 – (for Iwata, 76) asking too much for him to orchestrate matters in 15 minutes.

Kyogo – 5/10 – (for Stansfield 76) ran about. To no great effect, it must be said.
